Ink Gin wins DOUBLE GOLD at the 2021 Sip Awards

We are chuffed.

Ink Gin, which turned the traditionalist gin world upside down when it came to market in 2015, has bagged a DOUBLE GOLD Medal at the 2021 International SIP Awards.  

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The world’s first patented colour changing gin, Ink Gin was the first spirit to feature the exotic butterfly pea flower with its deep and mysterious indigo and curious colour changing properties.  

“It was a risk to place a coloured gin in the market but one we were happy to take, we had nothing to lose” says Ink creator Paul Messenger.

 “We knew it would attract a fair share of controversy but thought that could only be good for business.”

Before establishing Husk in 2012 to pioneer Australian cultivated Husk Rum made from fresh cane juice, Paul had no previous alcohol industry experience just a background in science, an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to be different.

After discovering the unusual butterfly pea flower in 2011, he put his mad scientist hat on and spent three years experimenting with different botanicals to create a distinct Australian-style gin in balance with the pH sensitive floral ink.

Ink Gin challenged local bartenders’ perceptions of what gin was (and could be) and heralded the start of the coloured gin movement that swept the world.

With its blend of certified organic botanicals, modern Australian flavour and eye catching organic blue colour that changes to pink when mixed with tonic water, Ink hit a positive nerve with gin lovers instantly.

A few years and a swag of medals later, Ink Gin is now one of Australia’s favourite gins. And it’s still our favourite as well.
